06 Dec 2008 6:25 PM

SYDNEY, Dec 6 AAP - A 30-year-old kite surfer has been left semi-conscious with head and facial injuries after a southerly buster carried him inland from a Central Coast beach.

The surfer dropped an estimated 20 metres onto land after the strong wind flung him into the air and carried him an estimated 70 metres inland from Broken Bay.

An NRMA CareFlight trauma doctor, who landed at Umina Beach just before 5pm (AEDT) to join paramedics in treating the surfer, said the man was left semi-conscious from his ordeal.

He also suffered head injuries, facial lacerations and a probable broken nose, he said in a statement.

The man was flown to Royal North Shore Hospital to undergo neurological examination, where he remained in a stable condition.
